A well-attended annual general meeting of Wolfe Tones na Sionna was held at the clubhouse in Shannon on Wednesday 12th December.
Chairman Michael Riordan in his address thanked everyone who helped our club in any way throughout 2018. Mike outlined a number of successes both on and off the field; one such success being the appointment of Mark O’Donnell as games development officer. Mike noted the club lotto is continuing to be an important source of income to support our games. There was a changing of the guard as Joe Kelly’s two year term as president had come to an end, which will see Paul O’Neill take over as club president. Mike thanked Joe for all his contributions over the term of his presidency. In closing, the chairman thanked Tony O’Connell for accepting the role as Trustee. Tony will replace Brendan O’Regan, who Mike noted had been a stalwart of the club for over 50 years.
The executive committee for 2019 is looking for people to fill the following positions; Juvenile Chairperson, Treasurer and equipment officer. Anyone who is interested in one of these positions is asked to contact Michael Riordan.
For the coming year the majority of adult teams will see little change in management. However, the Junior ladies footballers are on the hunt for a new manager.
In a move broadly welcomed by all those in attendance, 2019 will see the Camogie club and Wolfe Tones adopt the One Club Model and look forward to being together strengthening the GAA community of Shannon.
Finally a finance committee was created for the coming year. It was stressed that fundraising plays a crucial role in any club, and Wolfe Tones are no different. A number of members on the night volunteered. Many hands make light work, so anyone who wants to lend a hand, whether it is one hour every few months, or more, they are more than welcome to get in touch with either Mike or Amanda.
