Club History 

In 1967 when Shannon was a very new town and a number of GAA supporters came together to form Shannon’s first GAA club under the name of Shannon Airport GAA and Athletic Club little could they have foreseen the impact their actions would on developments of the sporting and social aspects of the town. The name was later changed to Wolfe Tones na Sionna CLG, a name that is now famous through out the length and breadth of Ireland. 
The first games were played in an open field in Ballymurtagh until 1972 when the new fields, clubhouse, function hall and dressing rooms were opened. Wolfe Tones na Sionna now became the real social centre of the town and was of huge social benefit to new people migrating from all over the country in search of work in the rapidly developing Industrial Estate. 

Trophies started to come fast and furious and in 1967 and 1972 Shannon were County Junior A Football Champions, and followed this up by winning senior Football league in 1974. Junior A championship was won in 1974 also and Intermediate football Championship was annexed in 1975. 
Most players on these teams would have been new to Shannon but as they settled it became apparent that efforts needed to be put in to secure future of the Club for the new generation of young footballers and hurlers and the foundation of todays success was led by the setting up of the Juvenile section of the Club. 
Again success was almost immediate with the U12 A Football A Championship in 1979. National honours followed shortly and in 1986, 1987 and 1988 Wolfe Tones na Sionna won an unprecedented 3 in row Feile na Gael Championship. In 1988 Feile Peil was added to this list. In fact 1988 saw an achievement that may be never be repeated in winning all A championship in hurling and football from u12 to Minor. 1988 was a massive year for Wolfe Tones na Sionna, having won all underage A titles in the same year - 'The Grand Slam'. 

With the underage success it was inevitable that success would continue at adult level and in 1989,1990 and 1991 Wolfe Tones won two Under  21 hurling and one Under 21 football championships. Expectations were high but it took another few years to win the big one, but finally in 1996 the Senior Hurling Championship was won and this firmly established the name of Wolfe Tones na Sionna in the country. We went on to win the Munster Club Championship before finally bowing out to Athenry in All-Ireland Club final on St. Patrick's Day in 1997. 2006 saw us win the County Senior Hurling Championship again. 

In 2014 our Intermediate Footballers won the County Championship, having been relegated just the year previously. Our hurlers followed the same suit, following relegation in 2014, they went on the to win the Intermediate County Championship in 2015 - then topping this with the Munster Intermediate Hurling Championship.  

We are the only club in Munster to have won both the Senior & Intermediate Munster Hurling Titles.  

Developments off the field now include, The Goal Post Bar, a very popular bar for all occasions in Shannon town, a new state-of-the-art astro turf pitch, three grass playing fields, dressing rooms, a hall, a gym & a sports wall.  

Wolfe Tones na Sionna operate under the 'One Club Model' - Hurling, Football, Ladies Football & Camogie all under one roof.
